Ophidia also known as Pan-Serpentes refers to the group of reptiles which includes. modern snakes. In Dave Emmett’s fantasy world a Prism Ophidia choses to dawn a back of rainbow scales. showcasing a pride and prowess. Snakes, a forbearer of sin incarnate in biblical terms has been co-opted by queer communities in reference to other mythologies that creates an image of power In Japanese mythology Shirabyōshi are thought to be female deities who wore traditional male dress. In Borneo, among the pantheon of deities, Mahatala-Jata is an androgynous or transgender god. The male part of this god, Mahatala, rules the Upperworld, and is depicted as a hornbill living above the clouds on a mountain-top and the female part is Jata, who rules the Underworld from under the sea in the form of a water-snake. These two forms are linked by a jewel-encrusted bridge that is seen in the physical world as a rainbow. The Indigenous Australian rainbow serpent gods Ungud and Angamunggi are both also described as androgynous or transgender.

Dave Emmett is punk-science-fiction artist who uses fluid pour-painting techniques to create nebulae, wormholes, planetscapes, and all things alien on canvas. He aims for vibes that are loud, vibrant, disruptive, and alive. A left-brained Doctor by day, he’s drawn to the ways in which fluid art defies efforts at pre-planning. Each painting forms dynamically, one tilt or spin at a time.
