Kayla Griffin

Boise, Idaho

Kayla was born in Sacramento, California, but relocated to Idaho at a young age, where she spent most of her formative years. In addition to her studies, she is happily married and shares her home with a rescue dog, a snake, and two milk snails, creating a lively and diverse household. Currently enrolled as an MFA student at the Academy of Art University, Kayla dedicates her artistic exploration to the enigmatic and uncharted. Her ongoing project involves the creation of self-portraits and captivating portraits that immerse the subjects in surreal contexts, guiding the observer through a narrative of mystery. By weaving hope into the fabric of her art, she strives to aid individuals in confronting the uncertainties of life. She draws unwavering support from her loving husband, Mark, who frequently assists her by capturing reference images and offering motivation during challenging times.

“My current works explore the traditional notions of surrealism. I aim to position myself between versitic surrealism and psychic automatism by exploring emotive figures, musical brush strokes, and subconscious messaging.”
